Wrong-Way Detection
Detect a vehicle traveling against traffic the moment it enters a monitored ramp or divided roadway, confirm lane and direction, and activate connected warning signs or beacons in real time, before it becomes a crash.
Standard system
LiDAR sensor, edge-processing hardware, direction-detection software, warning-device outputs, real-time alerts, event logging, remote monitoring, and technical support. Warning signs, beacons, and trailers can be supplied as part of your deployment or integrated with your agency's existing equipment; the overview camera is optional.
A Simple Operating Sequence
Detect
LiDAR identifies a vehicle entering the monitored ramp or roadway.
Confirm Direction
The system verifies lane position and direction of travel.
Activate Warning
Connected signs or beacons are triggered in real time.
Alert & Record Event
Personnel are notified and the event is logged with time-stamped data.
Alerts & Event Verification
Every confirmed wrong-way event triggers a real-time alert to designated personnel, delivered by email, text message, API, or integration with your traffic-management system or web portal, and is logged with time-stamped detection data for after-the-fact review. An optional overview camera can be added at deployment to capture visual confirmation of each event, supporting incident reporting and evidence review.
Why Agencies Choose HyPoint LiDAR
- Precise, lane-level tracking with a direct measurement of travel direction
- Reliable separation of closely spaced vehicles, with consistent performance at low speeds, when stopped, or reversing
- Detailed 3D point clouds for filtering and verification, with easy camera integration for an alert plus visual evidence
Ideal Applications
Ramp Monitoring
Exit and entrance ramps on divided highways.
Portable Warning
Work zones, detours & temporary traffic patterns.
Fixed Corridor Protection
Persistent monitoring at known high-risk locations.
Need vehicle records along with the warning?
Falcon inherits Kestrel WWD's wrong-way detection as an optional feature, alongside full vehicle dimensioning, classification, and a verifiable, image-backed record for every event, useful where an agency wants both the live driver warning and the evidence behind it.
